Success tip: Three ways to start owning your successes and boost your confidence
Do you recognise phrases like this ⬇️? Have you heard yourself saying – or even thinking – similar?
“Yeah, I got to this level [e.g. Executive level]. But it’s probably because I‘ve been here forever and they were settling for the best of a weak candidate field”.
“I got a really big bonus – I’m delighted! But I was so surprised…I’m sure I just got it because my boss feels sorry for me”.
These are both statements that I have heard very recently. Quite frankly, they are nonsense! 👎🏼
Sadly, it’s a very common issue. Reasons you need to stop:
❌ You have ZERO evidence that this is the case. NONE.
❌ This is seriously affecting your ability to enjoy your success that you’ve worked so hard for!
❌ It impairs your ability to dream bigger and go for the things that you’d LOVE to do.
Three things to do instead to help:
✅ STOP adding conditions or qualifying statements when you think or talk about your successes, achievements or things that you are proud of (e.g. anything like ‘but’ or ‘it’s only’ or ‘I don’t think…’)
✅ Do this very simple thing instead: stop writing/talking when you finish the fact or statement. E.g “I got a bonus!”. “I got promoted”.
✅ Even better, try adding something positive: “I got a bonus! And I feel proud of that, today”. Or, “I got a promotion. And what is ahead feels exciting”.
You’ll be surprised how effective these simple additions are – and also surprised how much you think or speak in this way.
As with many things, it’s all small steps. Start today.
